Opposing Democrats Is Not Treason

Watching some comments stream out of Capitol Hill these days are very depressing, especially when they treat legislative dissent and opposition as impediments to our democratic-republic, rather then successes. I think the Democratic response to Republicans opposing the President’s “jobs bill” is exhibit a.

Congressional Democrats are treating opposition to the “jobs bill” as near treasonous, accusing Republicans of placing politics over country, even though it’s country that has shaped the parties. Despise it as they may, we have two major national parties to represent the two major national ideologies – and considering they are not designed to agree

OWS is democratic, the Tea Parties are republican

Those of you sharp enough already caught the jist of this post by the title alone. Those of you that attended public school since the Dept. of Education was created, your “not getting it” is understandable. Inexcusable, but understandable. Read the post, you’ll eventually get it. Well, then again, maybe not.

Occupy Wall Street has often been compared to the Tea Party; I think it’s usually meant as an insult. By comparing the grass roots protest of the Tea Party to the amalgam of radicals at Occupy, they can diminish  the Tea Party’s success and make all protests distasteful to the general public.

There is little similarity. While the Tea Parties were neat and orderly, the Occupy protests are noisy, juvenile, and stinky. The Tea Parties were friendly while the Occupy movement is violent, angry, and crime ridden; they have the same problem with lawlessness that plagues most Democrat-controlled cities.

This explains why there is such a vast difference between the two. The Occupy movement is not only mostly Democrat; it is also democratic. Likewise, the Tea Parties are both a republic and Republican. They are microcosms of the political philosophies they each represent.

Tea parties are controlled by the rule of law and are planned in advance. They acquire proper permits, rent PA systems, Porti-Potties, and Tents. When they’re over, people pick up the trash and go home.

Occupy is famous for creepy chanting after every speaker finishes a sentence and a guy relieving himself against the side of a police car.  Some of the Occupy residents have, ironically, used the facilities of McDonalds and Starbucks and even took ironic shelter from the rain in a Bank of America ATM kiosk (I’m sure the irony is lost on them, though).  They loudly proclaim that “this is what Democracy looks like!”

Constitutional author James Madison would agree. In Federalist # 10 he wrote: “Hence it is that such democracies have ever been spectacles of turbulence and contention; have ever been found incompatible with personal security or the rights of property; and have in general been as short in their lives as they have been violent in their deaths.“ Read the rest

A republic if we can keep it

“What have you given us?” the woman asked. “A Republic… if you can keep it,” replied Benjamin Franklin. It is painfully clear, we can’t keep it. Just like the Roman Republic, this republic is rotting from the inside in the same way. You’d think we’d learn from history, it tends to repeat itself quite often.

We still have a few years left before our imminent collapse, oh yes, it is imminent, we will surely collapse if we continue on this path. It’s inevitable. The signs are already in place. And we won’t and aren’t going to “transform” in to something better, I’ll bet my life on that.

Most of us know it and feel it. There’s something terribly wrong with this country and some of us have a sense of urgency about it, we should all have that. Instead, we find complacency, go along to get along, disbelief, and the small and feeble-mindedness of partisan politics. Those are the folks that don’t know the house is burning down because they are looking for cough drops to stop their hacking caused by the smoke from the fire that is burning down the house. They are the people who don’t get it, and never will.

How did we get to where we are now? What’s the cause? Well, the 2008 election didn’t help, but it wasn’t the cause, it merely speeded up the process exponentially. Three words will give you the cause. “Too much government.” It is as simple as that. That’s what did in Rome, and that is what’s doing us in. Every single great civilization on this planet throughout the history of the world has one thing in common. It’s demise was caused by too much government. And here we are, doing it again.

How did it start and who’s to blame? The Progressives. I’m not talking about this current batch of progressives that occupy roughly two-thirds of the government today, I’m talking about the early 20th century progressives who got a foot hold in American politics a little more than a hundred years ago, and planted the seeds of the progressive ideology which have since sprouted, and become crops ready to be harvested.

Robert LaFollette of Wisconsin is who I consider to be the father of American Progressivism. A former congressman and governor who appointed himself to the senate in 1906, and unified factions of the progressive movement in to one political party called the Progressive Party in 1924 in a failed bid to win the presidency. He did get 17% of the vote and carried Wisconsin.

We have had our share of progressives in the White House. Theodore Roosevelt from 1901-1909, Woodrow Wilson from 1913-1921, Franklin D. Roosevelt from 1933-1945, Lyndon Johnson from 1963-1969 and Barack Obama from 2009 to the present. If you notice, during every single one of their presidencies, government grew uncontrollably and obtrusively.

Some of the progressives contributions to civilization include eugenics, which Hitler put in to practice with the aid of American progressives that went to Germany at Hitler’s invitation, to advise the Reich personally before the war. It is commonly known as “The Final Solution.” Yes, that was a progressive invention and idea.

Other notable contributions include the 16th Amendment (Income Tax) which is not a fair tax, that’s why it is called the progressive income tax. It’s not equal. The wealthier you are, the more they penalize and take from you. The 17th Amendment which took the States right to appoint senators via the legislature, and made direct elections of senators. And let’s not forget the wonderful 18th Amendment. Prohibition, not to mention “The Great Society,” the “war on poverty,” and Obamacare. Too much government.

Prior to the progressive movement of the very late 19th and early 20th centuries, people were close to the constitution, the government was small and limited, congressional power was only that specified by the Enumerated Powers, America was on the rise, wealth was created and we became the premier country in the world.

Since the seeds of the progressives were planted, look what’s happened. Look where we have come from and where we are going. It’s crystal clear what happened and how it happened. Just look at the size of government. We know what needs to be done, the question is, are we willing? The answer is clear. No. We are not. That is why we will fall.

Before I end this post, you need to look at something else as well. This country is in trouble and we all know it. What is the progressive solution to our troubles? If you’ve been paying attention, the Democrats and the president (sorry about using the term “Democrats.” I am not intentionally trying to make this partisan) all have the same solution, and that solution is what got us in to trouble in the first place. Their solution… more government.

In writing this post it’s my hope that some, if not all get a better understanding of what’s going on, and what needs to be done. I’m not intentionally trashing Democrats, but the progressives have overrun that party, so what can I say? Republicans have their share of progressives too. If you read this entire post, the names Robert LaFollette and Theodore Roosevelt should come to mind, and if you want to look at the senate today, how about Olympia Snowe, Susan Collins, Scott Brown and Lisa Murkowski? All Republicans, all progressives. This isn’t partisan, when I say progressives, its members of both parties I’m talking about. Not just the Democrats.

It’s clear we have a cancerous infestation in our government that needs to be removed. It’s time for us to grow up and be responsible adults and stop the party line, partisan nonsense. It’s bigger than that, and if you can’t or won’t do it, you are the problem, not the solution, and you need to get out-of-the-way while the real men do the hard work.
