I just wanted to update you on a couple of action items that I’ve been apart of in the past few weeks on the legislative front.
Repealing Appropriations for the ObamaCare Slush Fund
One of the many problems with the new health care law was the creation of a new $17.75 billion “Prevention and Public Health Fund”. Under the law, the Secretary of Health and Human Services is given complete discretion on how to spend the funds in this account. In other words, there’s no Congressional oversight. That’s why I recently joined my colleagues in the House in passing legislation eliminating this fund, rescinding un-obligated balances and returning the power to allocate spending back to Congress.
Further more, in light of a $1.5 trillion deficit, prioritizing spending needs to remain a top priority.
Working to Lower Gas Prices
With gas prices still hovering around $4.00 a gallon, it’s critical to establish energy policies that reduce our dependence on foreign oil and help lower prices at the pump. Last week, the House began taking action passing initiatives that will help increase American energy production and bring down rising prices. One bill restores oil and natural gas production opportunities off the coast of Virginia and in the Gulf of Mexico.
Next under consideration will be a bill to lift the current ban on new offshore exploration in areas containing the most oil and gas resources.
I also support a comprehensive energy plan that includes domestic sources of energy like nuclear, wind, solar, clean coal technology and others!
Have a great rest of the week.
