Volunteers Begin Filling Sandbags in Stillwater

Dozens of volunteers began to fill sandbags Monday to protect downtown Stillwater from the St. Croix River.

They’ll fill about 120,000 sandbags over the next two weeks, according to Mayor Ken Harycki.

Harycki says city officials will build a 2,100-foot levee along the St. Croix River that will be able to withstand potentially record flooding.

The river rose to 694.1 feet above sea level in 1965, which was a record.
