Feds to Texas: You defunded Planned Parenthood, now we’re defunding you

Obama’s War on Women’s Health.
When the Texas state administration first considered a rule to ban Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers from participating in the Texas’ Women’s Health Program, which is jointly funded by the state of Texas and the federal government, the Obama administration retaliated by threatening to cut funding to the program entirely.

Indiana cuts ties with Planned Parenthood

Good. This is a good thing. Before I get hit with a bunch of gibberish let me explain something. I am not an anti-abortion zealot, I do not believe Roe v. Wade should be overturned. I am pro-life, and I do understand things happen in people’s lives where abortion is on the table, and I also realize whatever those situations may be in your life are none of my business. However, I am strongly opposed to funding abortions with taxpayer dollars under any circumstances short of a medical emergency, period. So, defunding the abortion mill known as Planned Parenthood is a good thing. You want an abortion, you pay for it.

via The Blaze:

The Indiana House voted 66-32 Wednesday to approve a bill cutting the $3 million in federal money the state distributes to the organization for family planning and health programs.

The measure also ban abortions after the 20th week of pregnancy unless there is a substantial threat to the woman’s life or health and requires women seeking an abortion be told that life begins at conception and that doctors performing abortions have admitting privileges in a nearby hospital. The Senate approved the measure earlier this month.

The action opens a new legislative front in the conservative assault on Planned Parenthood, which has been targeted for its abortion services. Efforts to cut off federal funds in Congress failed this month, but bills are moving in a number of statehouses.

All of this is fine and dandy, and a distraction from the real issue in a way as well. The real issue and the real question needs to be, how did Planned Parenthood get government funding? It is not a function of government, funding it clearly falls outside the constitution in respect to the Enumerated Powers of congress. It clearly does not promote the general welfare. There is absolutely no valid reason they are being funded with taxpayer dollars.

No funding for Planned Parenthood

I seriously wonder how we got to the point of funding something that is not part of the government. There should be no funding of Planned Parenthood anymore than there should have been any funding of ACORN. We have no business giving them one thin dime, period. Forget the “taxpayer funding of abortions” with Planned Parenthood, that’s not the point. The point is, it’s just like ACORN in the respect that it is not a part of government and should not be funded via the taxpayer.

Now I know some will talk about the services that Planned Parenthood offers. Some good, quality health services. What about them? What do they have to do with the price of tea in China? That’s a distraction, changing the subject, and a moot issue. Planned Parenthood is not part of the federal government anymore than ACORN was. Planned Parenthood is a non-profit charity, and funding of charities by the federal government is unconstitutional. We went through this last week in a post you can find here.

If Planned Parenthood can’t make it on its own, I guess it just doesn’t. That’s how freedom works. Maybe they need to reorganize in to a for-profit business and see how they do in the free market, just like any other business. Like I said, the government has no business giving them one dime of taxpayer money, period.

As stated earlier, this post has nothing to do with the abortion aspect of what Planned Parenthood is doing. This is about funding a charity, funding something that has nothing to do with the government, a completely separate non-government entity. If you think or feel strongly about Planned Parenthood, put your money where your mouth is, open up your checkbook and make a significant donation. Case closed.
