Well this is certainly an odd turn of events. Thieves break in to a prison to steal a plasma TV. Things that make you go, hmmm… The first question that pops in to my head is, why are the convicts being coddled with state of the art plasma TV’s? Things must be pretty bad over in New Zealand if thieves are targeting prisons to rob.
I should ask my cousin about this one. Believe it or not, in the 1990′s he wrote and designed New Zealand’s tax code, so I’ve been told, and loved it so much over there he became a citizen and stayed. That’s one country I’ve always wanted to visit.
From Breitbart:
Police said Saturday that thieves had broken into the prison at New Plymouth, on the west coast of the North Island, just before midnight and stolen a large plasma television.
“If any members of the public saw anyone carrying a big TV at that time of night, or heard or saw anything in the area of the prison, let police know,” Sergeant Thomas McIntyre said.
The New Plymouth Prison is the oldest operating jail in New Zealand, having been in continuous use since the 1860s when it was converted from an army hospital.
The old jailhouse is surrounded by a large stone wall topped with razor wire, while a newer unit is surrounded by a fence topped with barbed wire.
A little useful summary about the New Plymouth prison:
New Plymouth Prison is the country’s oldest operational prison and accommodates 112 minimum to high-medium security prisoners. The prison also accommodates offenders on remand.
The prison was originally an army hospital in the 1860s during the Taranaki land wars. The site was converted to a prison later that decade and has been in use ever since.
New Plymouth Prison employs 65 staff and is located in the central city. It is part of Prison Services’ Central Region.
