NEA Throws Future Teachers Under the (School) Bus

The “education experts” that are giving leadership to the National Education Association have come out in favor of tougher testing measures for prospective teachers. The NEA, the nation’s largest labor union, announced last week that it favors “national standards for teacher preparation and licensing.”

“All teacher candidates should have one full year of teaching residency, and pass a performance-based assessment before entering the classroom,” NEA President Dennis Van Roekel said, according to Education Week.

The news site reports that the “pilot pre-licensure assessment” would take student outcomes into consideration.

Big Labor, Big Bucks in High Stakes Wisconsin Recalls

Think the Wisconsin Teachers’ union is worried that Wisconsin’s new labor law will lead to a dramatic decline in union membership? More money for education? HELL NO!

I’ve been a strong advocate of education reform, and that does not include more money, but less. Some of you may remember me telling you that it’s only about power and money with the unions, that’s all they care about, and the worker who was duped in to believing the unions were on their side, well, they’re the simple folk.

Teachers unions. Remember how I’ve plainly stated that it’s not about the kids, and never was? Some of you took issue with me. As it turns out, who’s right again?

So, who then is actually retarded enough to take issue with me when I say break the teachers union and eliminate the U.S. Dept. of Education?

That was Bob Chanin, former NEA general counsel for 41 years. He spoke the truth, said the very same things I’ve been trying to tell the folks that live in denial about.

That kind of mentality is also rampant among the nations teachers as well. The protests in Madison, Wisconsin and elsewhere have proven that.
