The Wednesday Rant

As regular readers know, Wednesday is slacker day around here. I need a break during the week so I just post 3 or 4 easy posts. Gonna start a new feature called “The Wednesday Rant.” Here’s the first one.

I haven’t addressed the Vikings stadium. So I will now. I’m glad it’s done and passed. We couldn’t afford to lose the Vikings. We lost the Lakers to Los Angeles, the North Stars to Dallas, and most likely had the stadium deal fallen through, the Vikings to Los Angeles.

I’ll give credit where credit is due. Hat’s off to Gov. Mark Dayton for helping push this thing. I have never agreed with anything he’s done, and probably never will again, but on this, I do. Good job, Governor. And a shout out to Morrie Lanning who was pivotal in getting this done.

Let’s be real clear, whoever voted no, basically voted to get rid of the Minnesota Vikings. My opinion is they should be lined up against a brick wall and machine-gunned down.

Look at all the jobs that will be created. A good many of those jobs, after construction, will be full-time permanent jobs. Those that voted no stated in no uncertain terms that they are not interested in creating jobs, and were in favor of reducing the tax base by letting the Vikings relocate.

Speaking of tax revenue. If the legislature had any sense about them, they’d repeal the smoking ban which has proven to be a dumb idea that cost the state millions, if not billions by now. That’s a discussion for another time.

The stadium didn’t have to cost nearly a billion dollars. Thank former Governor Tim Pawlenty for that. He could have signed off on it years ago at a cost of about 425 million, instead, he kicked the can down the road and as a result, the cost increased by 550 million dollars. I warned that was going to happen years ago.

So, state government and the career bureaucrat politicians more than doubled the price of the stadium. They all should be sent packing for that one.

Back then, we had budget surpluses, unemployment was low and jobs were plentiful. The perfect opportunity to build, but no, the chickenshits and dumbasses afraid for their political careers didn’t have the balls to get it done.

Well, no use crying over spilled milk. At least its done now.

And another thing… Speaking of spilled milk…

I was listening to Davis & Emmer yesterday morning and they were talking about raw milk, and a guy who was transporting it who the state is trying to make an example of. Leave it to the f**king state, bunch of assholes.

Anyway, a bunch of busy body nannies minding everyone elses business but their own made some sort of anal law about raw milk, all in the tired old excuse of “public safety.” After all, somebody could get e-coli from raw milk. In the real world, your chances of dying in a car crash are far, far greater, but leave it to the nannies in big government to pass yet another law that is retarded.

Gee, how in the world did civilization ever survive without pasteurized milk?

Here’s the deal. If you’re worried about raw milk… don’t buy it. Problem solved. How hard is that? We don’t need the f**king state meddling around making more goddam ridiculous legislation. F**kin’ A people, start thinking for yourselves you worthless bunch of goddam children. F**k! I’m sick of all this stupid ass bullshit.

And there you have it. The Wednesday Rant has been written.

Let’s Change It Up A Little And Talk Some Football

First off let me just say I’m happy Chris Cook was found not guilty on all counts in his felony domestic violence charges.

Here’s a young man whom I watched very closely last year before his trouble began, and you could see him improve and step up his game week after week to the point where very few if any completions were made against him. If he keeps his nose clean and concentrates on football, he could very well be on his way to becoming one of the better corners in the NFL. If you watched Cook at all last year, you can see the potential, it’s very obvious.

As for Christian Ponder… He’ll be fine as long as he has some protection and another wideout to throw to. Remember, Ponder had no OTA’s, no mini camp and not much for training camp in his rookie year. He was really behind the 8-ball.

As for Head Coach Leslie Frazier. I still say he’s the right man for the job and I stand by him. Last year’s disaster wasn’t all on Coach Frazier. This year and in years to come you will see that hiring Frazier as Head Coach was the right thing to do.

Now, let’s move on to the draft. I would not trade our first pick and let Matt Kalil go elsewhere. That would rank as number three in the bonehead blunders department. The first of course is the Hershel Walker trade, followed by the wasted first round pick of Demetrius “Psycho” Underwood. The Underwood pick ranks as the worst draft pick in Vikings history as far as I’m concerned.

First Round, no doubt I’d take Matt Kalil. That’s a no brainer. Second Round I’d go after Chase Minnifield, CB out of Virginia and in the third, this maybe somewhat shocking to some, but if he’s still available, and I think he will be, I’d grab Wisconsin wide receiver Nick Toon.

Don’t ask me about rounds 4-7. I’m not familiar enough with the guys that would likely be picked in those rounds.

Former Vikings QB Joe Kapp trades punches with former D-Lineman Angelo Mosca

Joe Kapp, the NFL’s original tough guy. He was a quarterback that instead of sliding or running out-of bounds would lower his head and run over linebackers and D-linemen, and if you played in the secondary, you didn’t want to try to tackle Joe Kapp, he’d hurt you. Joe was a man’s man. 40 for 60, baby!

His NFL career was short. Four years, 3 with the Vikings and one with the Boston Patriots. On September 28th, 1969 against the defending NFL champion Baltimore Colts, Kapp tied an NFL record with 7 TD passes joining the legendary Sid Luckman, George Blanda, Y.A. Tittle and Adrian Burk. Kapp was the last QB to throw 7 TD’s in a game, and that record still stands today. Prior to coming to the NFL, Kapp played 8 years in the Canadian Football League.

So there’s your abbreviated Joe Kapp history lesson. Now, what happened in Vancouver at a CFL Alumni dinner during Grey Cup weekend between Kapp and former D-lineman and WWF wrestler Angelo Mosca? Here’s what the Winnipeg Free Press reports:

VANCOUVER – There was some early unnecessary roughness at the Grey Cup weekend in Vancouver.

According to various reports, former B.C. Lions quarterback Joe Kapp and 74-year-old ex-Hamilton Ticats defensive lineman Angelo Mosca got into a physical altercation Friday afternoon at a CFL alumni luncheon.

The confrontation reportedly began after a highlight clip was shown from the 1963 Grey Cup, a game where Mosca drilled Lions running back Willie Fleming in what many considered a controversial late hit.

Fleming was forced from the game and Hamilton won the championship.

The altercation on Friday started after the clip when Kapp, 73, offered Mosca flowers as a symbolic peace offering. The sentiment was refused by Mosca and punches were reportedly thrown.

According to witnesses, Mosca used his walking cane to ward off Kapp’s punches.

Mosca’s post-football career included involvement in the World Wrestling Federation.

Football Talk: North Dakota State, or the Minnesota Vikings?

If I’m Bison Head Coach Craig Bohl, I’d even spot the Vikings 23 points!

That rank odor you smell isn’t the skunk you thought you ran over, it’s actually coming from the Metrodump where the Vikings did exactly that. Laid another smelly dump, blowing a 23 point lead. I told you last week they would be 0-3, and they are.

Will they be 0-4? Good question. They’re playing the Chiefs and they aren’t very good either but, the game is in Kansas City. I’d call it a toss-up now with a slight edge to the Chiefs just because they will be the home team.

I figure by the halfway mark, in a best case scenario the Vikings are 2-6, worst case 0-8. Their best chances of winning are next week against the Chiefs or the week after when Arizona comes to town. They won’t beat the Bears, Packers or Panthers.

It might be time for those of you that attend games to break out the paper bags to put over your heads, know what I mean? The play we’ve been subjected to really isn’t helping the stadium cause much, is it?

The game was over by deciding to go for it on 4th down instead of taking the points. And, giving the ball to the up back, Toby Gerhart instead of AP? WTF? Who’s bonehead call was that? Let’s be real, it would have been a 26-23 win instead of a loss by the same score had they taken the field goal. I’m pretty sure Bud Grant would have taken the three and put up with the booing from the idiot fans. I guess that’s why Bud’s teams won 158 regular season games, 1 NFL Championship, 4 Conference championships, 11 Division championships and he was the NFL Coach of the Year in 1969. Oh yeah, playing outside made the Vikings, Vikings. Looks like the sissie crowd is in control now… “Waaahhhh, it’s too cold!”

Now let’s talk about the nationally ranked FCS (Division I-AA) North Dakota State University Bison and their game with FBS (Division I-A) Big-10 big boys, the University of Minnesota Golden Gophers. The Bison took them apart and made it look easy. You could easily tell what team was better. Now I don’t mind the final of that one since I grew up in Fargo, obviously I cheered for NDSU.

The Bison looked really good, like a pro team. Craig Bohl can coach, no question about that. Their quarterback, Brock Jensen from Waupaca (Wisconsin) High School is only a sophomore, and let me tell folks, that kid is the real deal. The Bison won that game Saturday night by 13 in a dominating performance.

As for the Queenies… I wonder who they’ll pick next year with the #1 overall pick? Any idea’s?

Vikings go on vacation again for the second half, blow 17 point lead

Wait till next year! The annual cry of the Vikings. Two games in to 2011, it’s over for the purple and gold. I know some of the delusional folks will say, “it’s only the second game.” True enough, it is. But that doesn’t change the fact that the season is over and they will be celler dwellers in the NFC North for two years in a row.

Somebody forgot to tell the Vikings it’s “40 for 60,” not 20 for 30. For the second week in a row they left for vacation at halftime, this week blowing a 17 point lead against a not very good Tampa Bay team. You can talk about LeGarrette Blount, Josh “The Comerback Kid” Freeman, how the Bucs were 10-6 and “just missed” the playoffs last year all you want, they aren’t a very good football team, period.’

Expect the team to take off early again next week and lay another egg when Detroit visits the Metrodump. Can you say 0-3? You may as well get used to it, that will be where they sit next weekend after the Lions embarrass the Queenies at home for the second week in a row. Yes, I’m willing to put my money where my mouth is.

LeGarrette Blount’s 4-yard touchdown run with 31 seconds left lifted Tampa Bay past the Minnesota Vikings 24-20 on Sunday, completing another comeback guided by Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman — this time from a 17-0 halftime deficit.

Eight of Freeman’s 14 career victories have come when the Bucs (1-1) went ahead in the fourth quarter or overtime. Given how overwhelmed they were before halftime, outgained 284 yards to 62 during the first two quarters, this might have been the most impressive.

Freeman found Arrelious Benn for a 25-yard touchdown pass over Cedric Griffin with 6:39 remaining to cut Minnesota’s lead to three points. A 19-yard leaping catch by Dezmond Briscoe and a 15-yard late hit penalty on Jared Allen set up the score.

Adrian Peterson had 25 carries for 120 yards and two touchdowns in the first half for the Vikings (0-2), who blew a healthy lead for the second straight week and were booed off the field when their desperation drive was stopped around midfield as the clock ran out. No need to read the rest

Vikings take Florida State QB Christian Ponder

EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP)—The Minnesota Vikings have picked Florida State quarterback Christian Ponder with the 12th overall selection in the NFL draft.

With Brett Favre retiring and Tarvaris Jackson(notes) not expected back, the Vikings needed to find a potential long-term solution at the game’s most critical position.

Ponder was the fourth quarterback taken in the first 12 picks. He’s only the third quarterback the Vikings have taken in the first round, with Tommy Kramer and Daunte Culpepper the others.

Vikings Chris Cook Arrested in Virginia

Minnesota Vikings cornerback Chris Cook is in trouble with the law.

WSET-V is reporting Police in Lynchburg, Virginia arrest Cook Saturday night after they say he pulled out a gun during a fight with another man.

The Vikings drafted Cook in the second round of 2010. He played in just six games of his rookie season because of injuries.
