Follow up to a post earlier today entitled, Son of Packers coach missing, feared dead.

via Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:

Authorities on Tuesday confirmed that a body recovered Monday afternoon in the Fox River was that of Michael Philbin, the son of Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin.

The body of Philbin, 21, was pulled from the river Monday afternoon by Winnebago County Sheriff’s Department dive and rescue teams.

Michael Philbin, who lived in Ripon, had been reported missing Sunday night. He had been last heard from about 2 a.m. Sunday while visiting friends in Oshkosh.

Authorities said a witness called 911 at 2:36 a.m. Sunday morning to report that a person was in the water calling for help and in distress. The witness reported that the person was in the water in a section of thin ice about 30 yards from shore near the Axle Tech property.

Rescue crews responded and began a search in the water, but found no one.

Police said Tuesday that a non-distress cell phone call was sent from Michael Philbin’s phone at 2:10 a.m. Sunday near the area of the Fox River where his body was found.

The search effort continued on Sunday and into Monday afternoon, when Philbin’s body was discovered.
