WEB FORECAST: Mild Tonight, Storms Will Roll in Saturday Afternoon

KSTP.com Meteorologist Ken Barlow is forecasting a mild night with an overnight low temperature of 71 degrees.

Saturday will start out quiet, but scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to move into the Twin Cities area in the early afternoon. Some severe weather may be possible after 2 p.m. Temperatures Saturday will be around 85 degrees.

By Sunday the storms should be gone and we’ll have a nice day with temperatures around 79 degrees.

Minn. Duck Hunting Season to Open Week Earlier

Minnesota’s duck hunting season will open a week earlier than usual.

Opening day shooting hours also will be earlier, and the annual youth waterfowl hunt will fall on an earlier date this year. Bag limits for wood ducks and hen mallards will be higher than last year. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources also is adding north and south hunting zones to give duck hunters more opportunities.

Tomatoes Will Fly This Weekend in Hastings

Afton Alps in Hastings will look more like Spain during its famous Tomato Festival this weekend.  That’s where the first annual Midwest Tomato Fest will take place.

The gates open for the event at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, July 31st.  The tomato fight is slated to take place from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m.

The event will also feature live music, food, and a beer garden.

VIDEO: Twin Cities Man Tries to Break World Fishing Record for Good Cause

For the next 20 hours you can find Jeff Kolodzinksi sitting in the exact same spot on Lake Minnetonka.

He’s trying to break a world record for the most fish caught in 24 hours.

The current record is 2,143. He hopes to catch 2,500 fish.

The marathon fishing event benefits Fishing for Life, which is a non-profit that helps children experience the outdoors.

To break the record, he has to catch a fish every 40 seconds.

Hennepin Co. and DNR Strike Deal to Restore Fort Snelling

The Hennepin County Board of Commissioners approved a grant agreement Thursday with the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) that will help restore the Fort Snelling Upper Post.

Per the agreement, $1.2 million will go towards fixing historic features at the Upper Post.

County officials say that the county has been involved in rehabilitating this portion of Fort Snelling for a while.
