The primary field really is bad–for Democrats. As the media and voters scrutinize the Republican contenders, it is easy to forget how weak and unpopular the incumbent is. Polls suggest a majority of Americans want to replace President Barack Obama in 2012, and Democrats are hitting the panic button–even as Obama enjoys a slight bounce in approval–because they realize he has failed.

Manchin sides with GOP on spending caps & balanced budget amendment

The magic number is now down to 3. That’s all the Senate Democrats the GOP needs to pick off to reign in the irresponsible Obama spending machine. Joe Manchin stepped up to the plate, put America first, broke ranks with his party, and acted like a real Democrat would, not the phonies that run that party nowadays, but like the good one’s of yesterday.

via The Hill:

Freshman Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.) on Tuesday announced his support for strict spending caps that put him at odds with his party’s leadership and President Obama.

Manchin told an audience in South Charleston, W.Va. that he would endorse the “CAP Act,” which sets a tighter spending limit than the president’s budget calls for, as well as a balanced-budget amendment to the Constitution.

The senator suggested the legislation could help Republicans and Democrats agree to a deal to raise the nation’s $14.3 trillion debt ceiling.

What’s truly stunning is out of 53, only one is willing to do the right thing. Back in the day when they were Democrats instead of socialists, you would have found a lot more than just one. What a sorry lot we have allowed ourselves to become.

Hopefully there will be more that join Sen. Manchin and put the country first. I won’t be holding my breath, though.
