Obama said yesterday at the Gamesa Wind USA plant, “This is the future of American energy.” Really? Undependable, doesn’t work in the cold, inefficient and heavily subsidized to the tune of almost 25 dollars per megawatt-hour as compared to about 1.50 for nuclear, 0.45 cents for coal, and about 0.03 cents for oil. Take away the subsidy and let it stand on its own, wind energy dies. But that isn’t really the issue in this post.
What is the issue is Gamesa Wind USA was bailed out by the Obama administration to the tune of 22.8 million dollars, and he says, “This is the future of American energy.” This guy is just out there, unbelievable, common sense defying. Words can’t describe him and his presidency. Clusterfuck is about as close as I can come. By the way, Gamesa Wind USA is a Spanish owned company.
Via Brighter Energy:
Gamesa Wind USA is to bring back workers it laid off last November – and hire 50 more people – thanks to a handout from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
The wind turbine manufacturer, which has production facilities in Edensburg, Pennsylvania, is to receive $22.8 million in grants under the federal economic stimulus program.
The funding will pay for wind turbines for three large wind projects in the state.
Gamesa will receive $7.8 million towards installation of 19 wind turbines at the Chestnut Flats wind farm in Cambria and Blair Counties, each turbine rated at 2MW output.
A further $10 million will go towards the production of 23 turbines for Iberdrola Renewables’ South Chestnut wind farm in Fayette County.
And, $5 million is being produced for the eight turbines to be installed near Frackville, Schuykill County, in a project developed for the Broad Mountain Wind Energy Center.
You just really gotta wonder if this guy (Obama) lives in the same reality as the rest of us.
