Correspondence Corner With Rep. Erik Paulsen (R-MN-03): Cyber Security & Seniors Initiatives

In his continued effort to keep the lines of communication open with his neighbors, Rep. Erik Paulsen (MN-03) took time on Friday to answer questions from Anne in Wayzata and Keith in Bloomington.

This week, the House of Representatives took up legislation aimed at providing American companies with voluntary access to the tools they need to confront the growing threat of Chinese and Russian cyber attack. Rep. Paulsen heard from many of his neighbors regarding this important issue. Anne, In Wayzata, wrote in with her concerns regarding the cyber security bill which passed the House in Thursday. Also this week, Keith from Bloomington called in asking what initiatives Rep. Paulsen was working on to help seniors in our community.

Correspondence Corner With Rep. Erik Paulsen (R-MN-03)

For quite a while it seems, I’ve been focusing on the big daddy, national politics and the importance of getting rid of the worse-than-Jimmy Carter president, Barack Obama, and have been neglecting my own congressional district, Minnesota 3.

Heck, I’ve even spent more time on our summer home district held by our good friend Sean Duffy (Wisconsin 7).

That’s going to change. We won’t be ignoring (unintentionally) Erik Paulsen anymore. Paulsen has been a good congressman, much more conservative than his predecessor, RINO Ramstad.

Glancing through Erik’s record, the only thing I strongly disagree with is his vote for the children’s socialized medicine plan which taxed tobacco products in order to pay for it.

It’s still socialism, and socialism is never okay, even if it’s for “the children.” There is no excuse for it, and it has no place in this country as the constitution strictly prohibits it. You could say I’m still bitter about that vote and you’d be right. I never would have voted for it. The governments roll is not to provide for you, but to ensure you can provide for yourself.

Other than that, Erik Paulsen has been a good representative and will get my vote and support.

In this week’s installment of “Erik’s Correspondence Corner” video series, Representative Erik Paulsen (MN-03) directly responds to a question sent in from Scott in Wayzata and Lynda in Coon Rapids.

Scott, a small business owner, wrote in expressing his concerns about the tremendous burden the current tax code has placed on his ability to grow, expand, and hire. Also this week, Rep. Paulsen heard from Lynda, who called in voice her concern about the change in the President’s new healthcare law which forces consumers who use Flexible Spending Account (FSA) and Healthcare Savings Account (HSA) to get a doctor’s prescription when purchasing over-the-counter medicines like Tylenol and Claritin.

Help Erik End 2011 on a High Note

As the year draws to a close, I wanted to highlight what House Republicans were able to accomplish during our first year in the majority. We…

  • Passed a bill in the House to repeal ObamaCare;
  • Put an end to Congressional earmarks; and
  • Changed the debate from whether we should cut spending to how much should be cut.

But there is still a great deal of work left to be done. We still need to pass a Balanced Budget Amendment and get our economy going again. I’ll need your help if I’m going to continue to fight for what we believe in.  Please click here and contribute $5, $10, $25, or $50 before the year is up so I can head back to Washington after the next election. As always, your support is greatly appreciated.

Thanks and God bless,

Erik Paulsen

One Year From Now

One year from today, this country will head to the polls and cast its vote for which direction we want the nation to head.

I don’t need to remind you just how much we have at stake. Our economy is sputtering. Our nation’s debt has spiraled out of control. Washington is gridlocked because of partisan bickering.

I’m going to need the support of people like you if we are going to solve these problems without raising taxes or increasing the size and scope of government. Please click here and donate $25, $50 or $100 today so my campaign has the resources it needs to celebrate victory one year from now.

Thank you for your continued support and words of encouragement!

Sincerely,

Erik Paulsen

Congressman Erik Paulsen’s Update

A lot has been happening in Washington over the past couple of weeks, especially with the ongoing battle over the budget. But I wanted to share with you a few stories that may have fallen through the cracks.

House Votes to Stop the Backdoor Cap-and-Tax

One of the few good things to come out of the last Congress was the fact that cap-and-trade stalled in the Senate. Of course, President Obama isn’t taking this legislative defeat lightly and has instructed the EPA to try and sneak cap-and-tax through the back door. Today, the House passed the Energy Tax Prevention Act, a bill that would strip the Obama Administration of its ability to use EPA regulations to ram through its wildly unpopular cap-and-trade policy and prevent Minnesota families from facing another job-crushing tax from Washington.

High Marks from the National Taxpayers Union

Recently the National Taxpayers Union (NTU) released their annual scorecard for votes cast in the House of Representatives during 2010. This year, I was honored to have received the organization’s highest rating within Minnesota’s Congressional Delegation. You can be sure that’ll continue to fight everyday for the taxpayers, job creators and innovators that power our economy. Combined, the NTU found 234 “Big Spenders” in the House and Senate, which isn’t all that surprising when you consider Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid’s big government agenda. With a number that big, it’s no wonder that the American people sent new, fiscal conservatives to Congress last November.

Update on the Budget Showdown

As I’m sure you’ve heard, a government shutdown looms just over the horizon. The root cause of a potential shutdown is the fact that House Democrats last year failed to propose, let alone pass, a budget. Now, instead of tackling next year’s budget, we’re stuck cleaning up the mess created by the Pelosi-led Congress. However, House Republicans are working tirelessly to cut as much wasteful Washington spending as possible. Our agenda of fiscal responsibility is met with swift resistance by Senate Democrats, who care little about reducing the size and scope of government. While it’s too early to say what will happen, you can rest assured that my colleagues and I are doing everything in our power to advance our agenda of an efficient and effective government and continuing to cut spending.

As always, don’t forget to check out my Facebook and Twitter pages for more updates. Thanks for your support and have a great weekend.

Sincerely,

Erik Paulsen

Time to start helping Erik out here in MN-3

It may still feel like winter outside, but the 2012 campaigns are beginning to heat up. Last week, Democracy Corps released a list of the top 50 “2012 Battleground Districts.” Yes, you guessed it, the liberal organization ran by former Clinton strategist James Carville will be targeting me in the next campaign.

You can be sure that liberal groups such as the Democracy Corps will stop at nothing to take down Republicans like myself who are committed to ending wasteful Washington spending and stopping the reckless Obama agenda.

We ran a great campaign last year, but we can’t allow ourselves to get complacent.  Help me prepare to fight back by donating $10, $25, or even $50 dollars in the next 48 hours.

As always your hard work and dedication are greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Erik Paulsen
