(Yawn) We’ve heard this before: Obama to expand drilling offshore, onshore & Alaska

I can just hear all the Obamunists saying, “I told you so,” in their feeble attempt to defend America’s first socialist president. I am going to rain on your parade Comrade Obamunist, and show you this is probably just another lie to lift his sagging poll numbers before an election.

from Saturday’s New York Times:

WASHINGTON — President Obama, facing voter anger over high gasoline prices and complaints from Republicans and business leaders that his policies are restricting the development of domestic energy resources, announced Saturday that he was taking several steps to speed oil and gas drilling on public lands and waters.

It was at least a partial concession to his critics at a time when consumers are paying near-record prices at the gas pump. The Republican-led House passed three bills in the last 10 days that would significantly expand and accelerate oil development in the United States, saying the administration was driving up gas prices and preventing job creation with antidrilling policies.

Administration officials said the president’s announcement, which included plans for expanded drilling in Alaska and the prospect of new exploration off the Atlantic coast, was intended in part to answer those arguments, signal flexibility and demonstrate his commitment to reducing oil imports by increasing domestic production.

Does this sound familiar to anybody? It should, except maybe to the leftists that suffer from “selective memory loss.” Let’s go back over a year to a March 31, 2010 piece from the very same New York Times:

WASHINGTON — The Obama administration is proposing to open vast expanses of water along the Atlantic coastline, the eastern Gulf of Mexico and the north coast of Alaska to oil and natural gas drilling, much of it for the first time, officials said Tuesday.

The proposal — a compromise that will please oil companies and domestic drilling advocates but anger some residents of affected states and many environmental organizations — would end a longstanding moratorium on oil exploration along the East Coast from the northern tip of Delaware to the central coast of Florida, covering 167 million acres of ocean.

I’ll believe it when I see it. It’s been, say one thing and do another with this president for almost three years now. It’s gotten to the point of the little boy crying wolf.

After profiling Obama, studying him and his ideology, one can only logically conclude he’s playing politics. I’m so sure of that, I’m willing to bet money.

Majority Favor Drilling in ANWR, Oppose Driving 55

One-in-two Americans are ready to drill for oil in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) to lessen the country’s dependence on foreign oil, but they’re not nearly so willing to drive 55.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 50% of Adults believe the United States should produce more domestic oil by allowing drilling in the ANWR, an issue that Congress has debated for years. Thirty-five percent (35%) oppose drilling in the refuge, while 14% are not sure.

Additionally, 55% believe the United States should produce more domestic oil by allowing increased production of shale oil. Twenty percent (20%) oppose increased shale oil production, and 24% are not sure about it.

By contrast, just 25% of Americans think the country should cut back on its energy use by returning all major highway speed limits to 55 miles per hour. Sixty-two percent (62%) oppose a standard national 55 mph speed limit. Thirteen percent (13%) are undecided.
