Geithner to Gowdy: If Treasury could ask for just one more debt ceiling increase, the amount we’d request “would make you uncomfortable”

How much worse will it have to get?
At a Capitol Hill hearing today, South Carolina Republican Rep. Trey Gowdy asked Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner a thought-provoking hypothetical question. The congressman wanted to know: “If this were the last debt ceiling request you could ask for … the final one and you had to make it

Obama Requests a $1.2 Trillion Debt Ceiling Increase

President Obama has officially requested an increase to the statutory debt limit.

The formal request gives both chambers 15 days to vote on whether to approve of the $1.2 trillion hike. The House plans to vote on this request on Jan. 18, a spokeswoman for House Majority Leader Eric Cantor (R-Va.) said.

In a letter to House and Senate leaders sent Thursday, the president informed the Congress that the federal government had come within $100 billion of the existing limit and that another increase is “required to meet existing commitments.”

Remember when every Democrat Senator, including Obama voted against raising the debt limit?

You don’t remember that? It was March 16th, 2006 at 11:17 AM Eastern. Here, look at the roll call from senate.gov:

There is another way of looking at this too. If you’re a leftist, you no doubt will say, “All the Republicans voted for an increase in 2006. What happened?” That would be a very valid point. Is everybody as sick of putting party first, country second, politics as usual as I am?

Obama-la-la-land: American People Want Higher Taxes

Just when you think you’ve heard it all, Obama opens his mouth again. Does this guy live in the same reality as the rest of America? This guy is sick in the head, seriously. He just makes his reality up as he pleases and states it as fact. The only thing I will say with complete certainty and truth is this. If a debt ceiling deal is not reached, it is all Obama’s fault.

President Obama on Friday kept up the pressure on Republicans to agree to revenue increases in a deal to raise the debt ceiling, claiming 80 percent of the public supports Democrats’ demand for tax increases.

Really? Latest polling data shows only 34% agree with Obama, 55% disagree and say no new taxes. But every day is opposite day in Obama-la-la-land.

Remember how I say that Democrats, particularly Barack Obama do something, then point right, and blame Republicans for doing that very thing? Behold.

“The American people are sold,” Obama said. “The problem is members of Congress are dug in ideologically.”

Dug in ideologically? HA! HA! HA! LMAO!!! Ever look in the mirror, Barack? Members of congress are adhering to the will of their employers, the American people, but that’s something you wouldn’t understand. If this isn’t proof this guy is a total flake, what the hell is?

55% Oppose Any Tax Hike In The Debt Ceiling Deal

Mainstream America is talking, and as usual, Obama and the Democrats are ignoring us, and not listening. That shouldn’t surprise anyone. They ignored us on ObamaCare socialized medicine, they’re ignoring us regarding spending cuts. Their motto is “rule, not govern.”

via Rasmussen Reports:

As the Beltway politicians try to figure out how they will raise the debt ceiling and for how long, most voters oppose including tax hikes in the deal.

Just 34% think a tax hike should be included in any legislation to raise the debt ceiling. A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 55% disagree and say it should not.

This shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone. Guess what group of Americans are once again completely out of step with the majority of regular, everyday mainstream Americans? Of course it’s the Democrats. You wouldn’t expect anything else, would you?

There is a huge partisan divide on the question. Fifty-eight percent (58%) of Democrats want a tax hike in the deal while 82% of Republicans do not. Among those not affiliated with either major political party, 35% favor a tax hike and 51% are opposed.

Like I said, that shouldn’t surprise anyone. Democrats are always out of step with the common sense,  mainstream American majority.

CBS/NYT Poll: 63% Oppose Raising Debt Ceiling

Count me among those that are opposed to raising the debt ceiling. Either we cut the spending and eliminate parts of the government, or we default and start over. Continuing to raise the debt ceiling is not an option in my view. According to this poll, it appears the majority agrees with me (or I agree with them). Oddly enough, even Democrats are coming around.

Despite Obama administration warnings that failing to do so would devastate the economy, a clear majority of Americans say they oppose raising the debt limit, a new CBS News/New York Times poll shows.

Just 27 percent of Americans support raising the debt limit, while 63 percent oppose raising it.

Eighty-three percent of Republicans oppose raising the limit, along with 64 percent of independents and 48 percent of Democrats. Support for raising the debt limit is just 36 percent among Democrats, and only 14 percent among Republicans.
