FOLLOW UP: Oregon Democrat Rep. David “Paper Tiger” Wu Resigns

Good old David Wu! You might have read about his latest escapade in an LML post located right here. Well… Sayonara Dave!

Oregon Rep. David Wu issued the following statement of resignation Tuesday from the U.S. House of Representatives:

“It has been the greatest privilege of my life to be a United States Congressman. Rare is the nation in which an immigrant child can become a national political figure. I thank God and my parents for the privilege of being an American.

“Now, however, the time has come to hand on the privilege of high office. I cannot care for my family the way I wish while serving in Congress and fighting these very serious allegations.

“The well being of my children must come before anything else. With great sadness, I therefore intend to resign effective upon the resolution of the debt-ceiling crisis. This is the right decision for my family, the institution of the House, and my colleagues.

“It is also the only correct decision to avoid any distraction from the important work at hand in Washington. I intend to go forward with new resolve and love of family, the State of Oregon, and our nation.”

Well, you guys on the left had your fun with sex scandal mocking regarding Mark Sanford, Christopher Lee and John Ensign. But not to be outdone by Republican sleaze, you all had to one up us. Anthony Weiner, Alcee Hastings, Eric Massa, and now… drum roll please… Rep. David Wu! Okay I admit it. You guys are the king of sleaze. Every time we try to take that title, you always one-up us.

And you guys really smoked us with David “Paper Tiger” Wu. He gets the old “double whammy.” No Republican has ever done that. He’s the best.

Oregon Democrat Rep. David Wu has had a tough few weeks.

First, the Portland Oregonian reported that just days before the 2010 election Wu’s staff confronted him about his increasingly erratic behavior and urged him to enter a psychiatric hospital for counseling.

Then on Tuesday, Wu sat for an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos in which he admitted to sending “unprofessional” emails to members of his staff — including a picture of him dressed as a tiger for Halloween (not kidding) — but insisted that he had addressed his mental health issues and was now on firmer ground.

Later that day, the Oregonian confirmed that Wu had taken un-prescribed Oxycodone from a campaign donor in October 2010.

On Wednesday a local paper — the Register-Guard — called on Wu to resign because of his lack of candor, not his mental health.

And now David “Paper Tiger” Wu has been boinking a good friends teenage daughter who it appears is probably a minor child. Uh-Oh!

Rep. David Wu has been accused of an “unwanted sexual encounter” with the teenage daughter of a longtime friend, the latest scandal to engulf the troubled Oregon Democrat.

The Oregonian reported that the 56-year-old Wu “acknowledged a sexual encounter to his senior aides but insisted it was consensual,” according to sources aware of the incident.

The unidentified teenager and her family did not file any criminal complaint over the incident, which apparently took place sometime around last Thanksgiving.

Calling the episode “very serious,” Wu did not specifically address allegations that he made unwanted sexual advances toward the young woman who is the daughter of a donor.
