Hennepin County prosecutors say a teenager has pleaded guilty to his involvement in a drive-by shooting that left a 12-year-old girl paralyzed.
The county attorney’s office says Marlon Lozano-Montano pleaded guilty Friday as part of a plea agreement. In return, prosecutors agreed to recommend a sentence of 12 years, 11 months.
The 17-year-old pleaded guilty to assault in the first degree for the benefit of a gang.
Prosecutors say he rose through the sunroof of a car in November and fired into a group of people wearing baggy pants. They say a bullet pierced the neck of 12-year-old bystander Guadalupe Galeno Hernandez and severed her spinal cord.
A call to the jail Saturday seeking comment from Lozano-Montano went to an automated system that did not accept messages.
