Kill stresses program stability

Jerry Kill hasn’t given himself much of a break since taking over as the new Gophers football coach.

Kill says he’s had one Sunday evening of free time since getting the job at Minnesota in early December.

In assessing the program he was hired to rebuild and talking to current and former players, Kill says he has noted the importance of maintaining stability on the coaching staff. The Gophers haven’t had much of that in recent years.

Both of Kill’s coordinators have been assistants on his staff together for more than a decade. Kill said in an interview in his office Thursday with The Associated Press that if his players “see the same people” over the next five years then the Gophers have “got a good chance.”

Love’s Double-Double Streak Ends in Wolves Loss

null

Stephen Curry had 24 points and nine rebounds, and the Golden State Warriors ended Kevin Love’s four-month run of consecutive double-doubles in a 100-77 win over the Minnesota Timberwolves on Sunday night.

Monta Ellis and Dorell Wright added 16 points apiece for Golden State, which has already won four more games under first-year coach Keith Smart than it did last season.

Love had 12 rebounds but scored only six points on 1 of 6 shooting, ending his streak of double-doubles at 53 games. It was the longest streak since Elvin Hayes did it in 55 consecutive games in 1973-74.

Love made his first shot of the game early in the first quarter but couldn’t get much going after that and was held under 10 points for the first time since going scoreless against the Los Angeles Lakers on Nov. 19.
