Barge Drifts Into C. Reiss Coal Dock During Storm In Ashland, WI

The storm that blew in to the Twin Cities Sunday night and Monday (yesterday) was pretty tame compared to what occurred “up north” in Bayfield and the Apostle Islands of Lake Superior where the Madeline Island Ferry Line suspended service due to the weather.

Due to very strong northerly winds and rough seas in the channel, the Madeline Island Ferry Line will likely be closing for the day.

Twenty miles to the south in Ashland on normally placid Chequamegon Bay, a barge broke loose and grounded itself on the rock line of the C. Reiss Coal dock. Rick Olivo of the Daily Press has the story and video of the storm.
